Rituximab infusion for autoimmune disease
Rituximab was originally used to treat lymphoma but is increasingly used for the treatment of autoimmune diseases. It works for several months to reduce inflammation and improve your symptoms. If you respond well to rituximab you will probably feel better within four to six weeks.
The effects of rituximab usually last for between six and nine months.
Rituximab suppresses the immune system. Therefore, serious fungal, bacterial and new or reactivated viral infections (for example, hepatitis B or C, shingles) can occur during or after treatment. Generally, avoid rituximab in the presence of active, significant infections.
Discuss Alternative treatments with your doctor if you are not able to have or are intolerant with Rituximab.
