Janumet (sitagliptin/metformin) is an oral medication that is used in conjunction with diet and exercise to treat type 2 diabetes. Janumet contains sitagliptin and metformin. Sitagliptin works to regulate the levels of insulin your body produces after eating and metformin works by decreasing glucose (sugar) production in the liver and decreasing absorption of glucose by the intestines.
You should not use Janumet (sitagliptin/metformin) if you are allergic to any of its ingredients or if you have type 1 diabetes. You may need a dose adjustment or special tests to take Janumet (sitagliptin/metformin) safely if you have liver or kidney disease, have a history of pancreatitis or heart disease, or if you are over 80 years old and have not recently had your kidney function checked. You should make your doctor aware of all your health conditions. Ensure that your doctor is aware of all prescription, non-prescription and herbal products you are taking when using Janumet to ensure there are no drug interactions.
The most common side effects associated with Janumet include stuffy or runny nose, sore throat, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, indigestion, weakness and headache. When you take Janumet there is also the potential to experience other side effects. You should contact your doctor if you experience any side effects that are serious or last for a long time. Janumet should only be used under the direct supervision of a physician knowledgeable with its use.
Janumet (sitagliptin/metformin) may be part of an ongoing and expensive regiment of drug therapy that is required in the treatment of type 2 diabetes.
